Ananszah Tiger Goodie, a 19-year-old Mesa College student, had the opportunity to see her work displayed in the Mesa Art Gallery for the first time.
When her professor sent her an e-mail asking for her permission to post her work, Goodie couldn’t believe it.
“When I first heard about the art gallery I didn’t think much of it. Like I thought it was really cool but I believed that they would only put in the art seniors work up. Which is why I was so surprised that Professor Misty (Hawkins) asked if she could put my drawing of the LRC in the show. I felt honored that she view my work as gallery quality.”
The drawing was a class assignment where the students had to draw a part of the LRC. Goodie remembers that she learned from this assignment but also from the experience of having her work in the Art Gallery.
” We had to draw a part of the LRC in other words, siting in the same spot drawing walls, but we did learn a lot of it. Me and two of my other class mates got picked for the show and we got to see our drawings get matted, which is when they frame it to be placed in the gallery.”
Goodie is very thankful to the teacher who encouraged her all the time. ” Everyone’s going to see that and think, oh, wow. Who made that? And they’re going to read the tag and say, oh, Ananszah,” said Professor Hawkins. But also she remember that those who arranged the gallery did a great job.
” When I went inside with some of my family members and saw the fellow students art work it was so professional with the set up that I almost forgot it was in a college. ”
” It was so cool to see my name and drawing on the wall and to see it famed and looking like a true work of art,” said Goodie. “And the excitement I felt when I saw people stopping to look at my picture was out of this world,” continued the student.
Goddie is aware that opportunities like this one are very special and she is happy that she could take advantage of it. For her, this experience will always be in her heart. ” It was a fun experience that I will forever remember.” This experience also opened her appetite for fighting and trying to be in more exhibitions.
” I hope to be in more student exhibits in the future,” Goodie said.
