Mesa College Learning Resources Center held its annual semester book sale for students, faculty and anyone who would like to purchase used books.
Today September 24 the book sale will be held until 3:30 p.m. this afternoon.
Michael McLaren, Instructional Lab Technician of Learning Resources Audiovisual Services said, “Most of our books have been pulled from the shelves where their circulation wasn’t there or we find some older books.”
Each book is placed in a box where students can choose from many different types of selections such as cookbooks, self-motivations books, novels, romantic novels, textbooks, and music books.
Mesa College student, Joe LLorin said, “I came here because I saw all the boxes and as a guy who goes to swamp meets and stuff, it is always exciting.”
Joe also comments that, “It is always exciting to discover new things.”
Joe is leaving today with a book about songwriting and a book on writing fiction.
Each hard cover book is $1.00 and $0.50 cent for paperback. All proceeds go to the Learning Resource Center (LRC) trust, which assists with scholarships, and equipment needs.
Michael McLaren says, “There are restrictions put on various budgets where you can only spend this much, so this limits what we can finance.”
Faculty, students or anyone can donate their books to contribute to the Learning Resource Center to help their cause.
The donated books go through the collection development coordinator then he distinguishes if the books should be put on the shelf, given away to another library or sold at the book sale.
The book sale is held once a semester to help with funding and to recycle books by (LRC) staff and work-study students. Bookworms and students alike come by and grab yourself a new book.
