Each semester Mesa holds free concerts every Wednesday in the music room.
For the past 12 years the music department has been able to bring high-quality concerts on campus. Many musicians including students and staff participate in these events.
This semester Mesa is presenting performers and instruments including, Mary Barranger (harpsichord), Peter Sprague (jazz guitar), Janos Negyesi(violin) and many others.
Performing on the first recital was, George Svoboda on guitar, and James Romeo on saxophone. The concerts are entertaining, and beautiful sounds are incredible. The audience gets to enjoy the music but there are stories behind the music, which makes it more interesting to follow. The selections are announced from the stage.
Students have the opportunity to take the class four times for credit. A great opportunity for musicians to show off their talent and perform for free.
Bumble Bee foods donated money for recital hour. It’s a one-time donation. The donation increases the amount that can be spent on the performers. It allows the department to invite and present world class of performers and be able to pay them.
The donation also allows them to invite more performers instead of having one or two.
The music department has not been sponsored before. This is the first time it has been sponsored. There is no food offered during the recital
On Oct.24, at the Apolliad Theatre the department will have a concert dedicated to Bumble Bee Foods as a show of appreciation for the donation.
The recitals are held every Wednesday for free in Room C-119 at 12:45. The next performance is with Todd Rewoldt on saxophone, and peter Sprague, Leonard Patton, on Sept 17. There are many more performances throughout the semester.
