The Mesa Transfer Center is swamped with frustrated calls and anxious students, all because San Diego State University rejected up to 110 qualified transfer students- on accident.
The rejections seem to have been caused by a computer glitch, causing a problem in the way General Education economics and history credits were viewed in submitted supplemental applications. If a student received that dreaded letter, there may still be hope.
“Don’t be satisfied with the answer,” said Naomi Grisham, Director of the Mesa Transfer Center.
All of those mistakenly turned away should have already received an email from SDSU. However, the first step is to call SDSU and find out the exact reason for denial. Then students can join the masses of Mesa students in the Transfer Center to fill out an appeal form and re-send transcripts. Counselors will be available to help make sure you do in fact meet transfer requirements.
The university will review the fall 2009 applications and accept anyone mistakenly turned away, according to a San Diego Union-Tribune article on March 12.
If it turns out you don’t meet SDSU transfer requirements, counselors will assist students in finding other suitable options. Also ask counselors about upcoming transfer workshops where fall applications are still being accepted for select CSUs.
Grisham is hopeful that this problem will be sorted out before the end of this semester. For further questions go to the Transfer Center located in room I3-302 (2nd Floor) or call them at 619-388-2473.
