Northern California has been undergoing strong winds, heavy rain, and floods that have been shutting down public transit systems and schools throughout Nor Cal. With a widespread of blackouts occurring in cities such as San Francisco and San Jose people are warned to stay in doors and stock up on supplies. The storm however is progressing and making its way to Southern California giving up to 5 inches of rain already in cities like Los Angeles. Landslides are leaving people without homes and floods are putting officials on high alert for potential drowning’s. Two people have already been rescued from the Los Angeles River. The storm is also causing hurricane like winds gaining up to 60 mph in some areas. This powerful storm is known amongst professionals as a storm that is “expected to be one of the strongest storms in terms of wind and rain intensity” said the National Weather Service in Monterey, California. The strong winds from this storm have already shut down 150,000 people’s power throughout the Bay Area. As the rain comes in the snow in the mountains comes along with that, with Mount Lincoln, near Truckee getting 147 mph winds and around 19 inches of snow. Around an estimated 2 million people are supposed to be hit by this cruel winter snowstorm, and blizzards. The National Weather Service also stated that this is the worst rain San Francisco has received since February 3,1998. In addition tornado warnings have spread throughout Southern California with a tornado already passing the Los Angeles area damaging roofs, billboards, and trees. This is the worst storm that has hit the West Coast in five years, as it will last through this week expected to have past finally on Saturday December 20th. Officials say and we recommend that supplying yourself with food, and water and staying inside this weekend is a good idea to stay safe of any potential hazards.
